Within the last six months, the iPad has sold over 2 Million units’ worldwide and they have been used for a wide array of purposes. One of the biggest and most renowned features of the iPad has been its books. Ever since Amazon kick started their eBook application on the App Store, they have managed to sell off a great number of copies and their sales keep on rising through the roof.

On the whole, apart from the Amazon App, there are a number of eBook apps available, all of which offer different prices and special editions available for download. At the WWDC, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc. stated that there have been over 5 Million downloads for the iPad till date. This does not mean that the books are necessarily purchased as there are a number of Apps that offer free books for downloads and other special trial packages.

The Apple iBook application is the number one app in this regard that has the most number of users downloading their favored books. Steve Jobs also mentioned that the iBook store would be updating their app later this month which means that there will a wide range of books to opt from. The new iBook app promises to allow PDF documents to be viewed within the app itself as well as offering bookmarking control for users to continue reading where they had left off. Additionally, there will be special features allowing users to add their own notes to the books and documents they have downloaded.

While iBook and Amazon are the two top apps for the iPad, many critics do believe that the Kindle app and store is a much better option to opt from. Not only does the Kindle store have a vast number of well classified categories to opt from but they also have their downloadable content made available to a multitude of devices and not just the iPad.
